All about the technology of e-bikes

Components of an E-Bike

E-bikes have become incredibly popular in recent years. They combine the benefits of traditional cycling with the power of an electric drive, making them ideal for both commuting and recreational riding. An electric bike is packed with technology. But what exactly are we talking about when we talk about "technology"? Let's take a closer look at the technology behind these innovative bikes.

THE BASIC COMPONENTS OF AN E-BIKE

An e-bike consists of several essential components that work together to enhance the riding experience:

1. The Motor

The motor is the heart of the e-bike and can be mounted in various locations: in the front wheel, rear wheel, or in the center near the bottom bracket (mid-motor). SPARTA electric bikes feature a Bosch mid-motor. This type of motor offers optimal weight distribution and efficiency, resulting in a smooth and stable ride.

2. The battery

The battery powers the motor and largely determines the e-bike's range. The batteries in a SPARTA e-bike are easily removable, making them easy to charge anywhere. Batteries vary in capacity, which is expressed in watt-hours (Wh).

3. Drivetrain

There are two types of drivetrains on an e-bike: chain drive or belt drive. Both systems have their own advantages and disadvantages, and which one is best for you depends on your specific needs and preferences.

Chain Drive

Chain drive is the traditional and most common drivetrain for both regular bicycles and e-bikes. These electric bicycles can be divided into two categories. There are e-bikes with a chain and a closed chain case, and e-bikes with a derailleur – and therefore an open chain.

Belt Drive

Belt drive is a newer alternative to the traditional chain and is becoming increasingly popular, especially for premium e-bikes. An electric bicycle with a belt drive is low-maintenance, quieter, and very smooth because the belt offers less resistance than a chain.

4. Gears

On an e-bike, you can easily reach speeds above 20 km/h. Thanks to the motor installed in the e-bike, you'll experience assistance up to 25 km/h. Once you're up to speed, it's also important to maintain a comfortable ride.

E-bike brakes

Reliable brakes are essential for the safety of any bicycle, and e-bikes are no exception.

Disc brakes, especially hydraulic ones, offer superior braking power and performance in all weather conditions.

All SPARTA e-bikes are equipped with hydraulic disc brakes to provide our e-bikes with the highest quality components.

Electric bike lighting

Good lighting is crucial for visibility and safety, especially when riding at night or in bad weather. Our e-bikes are equipped with LED lighting powered directly by the e-bike battery. This provides a bright, durable, and energy-efficient light source. Are you already familiar with our innovative n:LIGHT?
