Preventing Theft
How to reduce the risk of e-bike theft: tips & tricks An e-bike is a valuable investment and unfortunately also an attractive target for thieves. Preventing theft of your e-bike is, of course, very difficult, but you can minimize the risk. This requires careful precautions and the use of the right security methods. We offer practical tips to minimize the risk of theft and keep your e-bike safe. Invest in a high-quality lock Every electric bike comes with a frame lock. SPARTA locks have the correct quality mark and are of the highest quality, but a frame lock doesn't completely prevent theft, as your bike can be stolen. For even greater security, it's wise to invest in additional locks. Some (supplemental) insurance policies also require a second lock when parking an e-bike. An additional lock must be sturdy and not attached to your bike. This could be a cable or chain lock, for example. Insurers require such a lock to have an ART 2 or higher certification. Lock your e-bike to the world Always lock your e-bike to a fixed, sturdy object such as a bike rack, pole, or designated bike stand. Secure the frame and at least one wheel to the object to prevent easy removal. Preferably don't leave the lock on the ground after securing it. This allows thieves to use a rock to force the lock. Park your e-bike in secure locations Choose your parking spot carefully: Well-lit areas: Park your bike in places that are well-lit at night. Busy areas: Places with lots of pedestrians and traffic reduce the risk of theft. Secure bike parking: Use guarded bike parking or bike lockers if available. Use GPS trackers Modern technology offers additional protection in the form of GPS trackers. These devices can be discreetly mounted on your bike and help you find your e-bike if it's stolen. Many trackers are connected to a mobile app that allows you to track your bike's location in real time. Remove your battery and display Our SPARTA e-bikes have removable batteries and displays. Taking these components with you when parking your bike makes it less attractive to thieves. It also makes it harder to use the bike immediately after it's stolen. Register your e-bike You can choose to register your e-bike with a national database or with the local police. This makes it easier to recover your bike if it's stolen. Also, make a note of the frame number and take photos of your bike for identification. It's also a good idea to always register your e-bike with SPARTA. You can do so here. Insure your e-bike Consider taking out bicycle insurance that covers theft. While this doesn't prevent theft, it does provide financial compensation, reducing the impact of the loss. Everything about the range of your e-bike
What is the range of an e-bike? The range of an electric bike, or how far you can ride on a full battery, depends heavily on the type of battery and the conditions you ride in. The longer you ride, the larger the battery capacity needs to be. The level of pedal assist also affects how quickly the battery drains. For longer rides, choose a battery with a larger capacity. What does Wh mean for range? A higher number of watt-hours (Wh) means a longer range and requires less frequent charging. At SPARTA, you can choose from several battery options for various models, allowing you to determine the range and purchase price yourself. How far can I still ride my e-bike? "How far can I still ride my e-bike?" is a frequently asked question. Because many factors, such as wind, weight, and road surface, influence the range, this is difficult to answer precisely. Fortunately, our e-bikes have a display that shows the remaining range. This helps you plan your ride well and avoid running out of battery. Factors that influence range Several factors can affect the range of your e-bike: 1. Battery capacity The battery capacity, expressed in watt-hours (Wh), is one of the most important factors determining range. The higher the capacity, the further you can ride. For example, a 500 Wh battery has a greater range than a 300 Wh battery. 2. Pedal assist level E-bikes usually offer different levels of assistance, from eco to turbo. The higher the assistance level, the more energy the motor uses and the shorter the range. 3. Terrain and cycling speed Cycling on flat roads requires less energy than riding on hilly terrain. A steady, constant cycling speed helps save energy. Frequent stopping and starting, such as in heavy city traffic, uses more battery power. 4. Weather conditions Wind, temperature, and rain can all affect range. Extremely high or low temperatures reduce battery performance. 5. Total Weight And finally, the total weight of the bike and rider also has a significant impact. A heavier load requires more energy from the battery, which can reduce the range. 6. Battery Age Batteries age due to age and the number of charge cycles. Tips to increase your e-bike's range Want to increase your e-bike's range? Here are some helpful tips: Keep your tires properly inflated. Avoid unnecessary weight. Shift to a lower gear when starting off and back down when stopping. Check that your wheels are free of debris and are free of sticking brakes. Charge the battery at room temperature. Update your e-bike system regularly, for example, during your annual maintenance. Choosing the right battery for your e-bike When purchasing a new or replacement e-bike battery, it's important to know what you'll be using it for. For short trips, a 400Wh battery is often sufficient. For longer distances, such as commuting, we recommend a 500Wh or 625Wh battery. This allows you to get the most out of your e-bike's power. Choosing the right frame size
How to choose the right frame size for your electric bike Choosing the right frame size for your electric bike is essential for a comfortable and safe riding experience. A bike that's too big or too small can lead to discomfort such as back and neck pain, saddle soreness, and fatigue. Furthermore, an incorrect frame can affect your control, potentially compromising safety. Learn how to ensure you have the right frame size for your electric bike below. Calculating the frame size of an e-bike Calculating frame size by measuring your bike There are several ways to calculate the frame size of your e-bike. The simplest is measuring your old bike. Take your current bike and measure from the bottom bracket to the point where the seatpost exits the frame. The length you see on the measuring tape is your bike's frame size. Note: Measuring the frame size of your current bike only works if you're sitting correctly and comfortably on it. If you find yourself sitting incorrectly on your e-bike, try a different method. Calculating frame size by measuring your inseam The second way to measure your e-bike frame size is by calculating your inseam. Difficult? No way! This is super easy and you'll be done in no time. All you need is a measuring tape and a calculator. If you have them handy, you're all set! Step 1: Measure your inseam Stand upright with your feet approximately 15-20 cm apart. Measure the distance from the top of your groin to the ground. Write down this number. Step 2: Calculate the Correct Frame Size Once you've measured your inseam, you can calculate the correct frame size. For a city or electric bike, you can use the following formula: Frame size (cm) = Inseam (cm) x 0.66 Example: If your inseam is 80 cm, the ideal frame size is 80 x 0.66 = 52.8 cm. In this case, a 53 cm frame would be the best fit. Other factors that influence choosing the correct frame size: 1. Bicycle Type Frame size can vary depending on the type of bike. Road bikes, mountain bikes, and city bikes have different geometries and therefore require specific sizing. 2. Personal Preferences Some people prefer a slightly smaller or larger frame size for a sportier or more comfortable riding position. Test different sizes to see what works best for you. Test, test, test! The best advice is always to try out different e-bikes before making a final choice. Take a test ride to get a feel for how the e-bike rides and whether the frame size really suits you. During the test ride, pay attention to how comfortable you are, how easy it is to steer, and how your body feels during and after the ride. Ask an expert for advice.
